Septier 7-IP NMS & QoS

In today's wireless networks, surveillance of network characteristics is becoming more important than ever before. Performance monitoring, security, fraud detection, alarm monitoring, billing verification, remote protocol analysis, failure prediction, and traffic engineering are some aspects that need to be monitored continuously. A network operator, service provider, or equipment manufacturer must have the means to perform the above surveillance tasks cost effectively, remotely, automatically, and non-intrusively. Fortunately, the network backbone contains a wealth of information that can be monitored and collected to support these activities.

Septier's has developed the Septier 7-IP with a three tier distributed architecture driven by non-intrusive hardware probes, intelligent software, and a database engine. The architecture is shown in Figure - 1 and consists of a scalable and flexible system.

Users can use it for multiple sites and various applications. Signaling Probes are deployed in the field to monitor various protocols and conditions which are then collected at a central site into a database. Data records are stored into a relational database using ODBC.  Client applications are used to interrogate database records and provide a user friendly interface for query and display.

Septier's 7-IP Surveillance Solution enables end-to-end visibility of the network. That means that the operator can easily monitor everything happening on the network with a single, multi users and user-friendly package, through a central portal.

Septier's 7-IP supports different network types such as:

PSTN, GSM, GPRS, CDMA, UMTS and VoIP.

Architecture and Key Features

Septier's 7-IP provides signaling links status from the fault, performance, QoS and xDR generation perspectives by using the real-time surveillance and data analysis capabilities of Septier Probes suite together with Septier's 7-IP Mediation Server and applications.

Septier's DCS (Digital Cross Connect) grooms all the network signaling links in order to enable efficient monitoring.

Septier's Signaling Probes non-intrusively monitor physical signaling lines of the network (ISUP, IS-41, MAP, IOS, NOIS, SIP and more).

The probes are connecting via TCP/IP to the database loader.
Only precise and filtered data (user selectable) is collected into the centralized database

All Septier Surveillance based applications (see details in the next sections) are laid over Septier's mediation server.

Users can log into the central system locally/remotely via the portal which provides a comprehensive wide view of the collected data for different purposes like Troubleshooting, Call Detail Records, Traffic Monitoring, Quality of Service, etc.

Other applications can be connected to the SLR mediation server by an open and common API.

Septier 7-IP Applications

Alarms and Fault Manager

Real-time display of active alarms
Alarm display by their severity level
Alarm threshold definition to provide early detection of events
Alarm history reports and alarm data filtering

Links Load and Status

Capability to define Links, Link sets and Link groups
View the links on a color map
Display links full details.
Monitor the performance in real-time or historically

Performance and Statistics Manager

Built-in statistical Reports
The user can create statistical measurement reports for Links, Link sets or Link groups

Composite Tracing

Provides trace capabilities of GSM (2G, 3G), CDMA (2G, 3G) or VoIP network.
Call-trace and Link-trace
Full decoding
Real time mode, or playback mode
Results appear in a table where every line represents a traced message
You can select which message's fields will appear in the table

T1/E1 Probe Interface Characteristics

Multiple Link Sets per T1/E1 (thru Digital Cross Connect Grooming) - multiple 64 kbps signaling channels per T1/E1 can be monitored simultaneously by grooming through a digital cross-connect.
T1/E1 Cards can also be connected non-intrusively in Monitor or Bridge Modes, or alternatively the data can be looped through the cards.
Signaling Link Interfaces:

STM1/OC3
HDLC
100 Base-T
Gigabit Ethernet
